Child rights and human trafficking workshop

Tamenglong, February 25 2011: A one day workshop on gender, child rights and human trafficking concerning Zeme people was held at Tousem United Baptist Church Tamenglong today.
It was organized by Indigenous Women and Children Foundation sponsored by Women Action for Development.
More than 85 men and women from Tousem came to attend the workshop in which Kinderson Pamei, Chairperson Child Welfare Committee Tamenglong and Sobita, Secretary Women Action for Development grace as resource persons.
A video clipping on human trafficking was also shown to the participants.
The resource persons reminded that parents play a vital role to fulfill child rights and to prevent human trafficking.
Hueiyen News Service talked to an agent who took children to Mumbai.
He is one Ipeung 34 son of Reitat of Mandeu village.
He said that there were 23 children studying in Calvary Baptist College, in Vishwnagar Karjit, Mumbai, Maharastra from Mandeu village.
He admits that he took six children to Mumbai, but on the request of their parents.
'As of now this college, Calvary Baptist College, in Vishwnagar Karjit, Mumbai, is very good, I was there for five years and I completed my BD there.
Ipeung also said he was not sure if the college is registered or not.
He also said that some children from Ukhrul and Nagaland are also staying there.
It is learn that some parents were trying children to bring back at home and started collecting money for their journey started in the village, source said.
