Minor girl sold in TN by neighbours
Malkangiri, Feb 28: The parents of a girl approached the police here Wednesday alleging that their daughter was abducted and sold in Tamil Nadu by one of their neighbours. During interrogation, the neighbours admitted to have committed the crime. According to sources, the 12-year-old girl, daughter of Mangaraj Bhumia of Bhairaba Colony here and a Class-V dropout, was a close friend of Kumar Harijan’s daughter and used to frequently visit her house to play with her. The girl had gone to Kumar’s house February 14 as usual, but did not return. Efforts to trace him did not yield any result. Apprehending that their daughter might have gone to their native place, Bhumia and his wife went to Mebagundi village in Mathili, but in vain. Worried over her sudden disappearance, the couple inquired with the Kumars regarding her whereabouts. However, Kumar and his wife started misbehaving with them and a scuffle ensued between the two families. The couple then lodged a police complaint Wednesday against Kumar and his wife alleging that they have sold the girl in Tamil Nadu. Based on the complaint, police Thursday questioned Kumar and his wife on the matter. During interrogation, the Kumars admitted to the crime, police said adding that efforts are on to trace the girl.
