Minor girls rescued from Kovai brothel
Coimbatore, Jan. 22: The police busted yet another prostitution racket and rescued three minor girls who were forced into the flesh trade by a 43-year-old pimp.
The girls, (names changed) Suganya, 17, from Bangalore, Malavika, 16, and Samanda, 16, both from Kozhikode, were brought to Coimbatore by Saji Mohan, 43, as he promised to get them a job.
“As the three girls’ parents were reeling under poverty, their parents sent the girls, who had just finished their education, to Coimbatore with Saji hoping that he would get the girls jobs. However, after bringing them to Coimbatore two weeks ago, the accused had forced them into prostitution,” said the police.
Saji ran the prostitution racket by renting out a house at Sakthi Sai Nagar in Podanur, which is a residential locality.
The illegal business came to light when Rajesh, an auto driver in the same area, tipped off the police about the racket after Saji invited him to the house in case he wanted to have sex. The police rounded up the accused and rescued the girls in a late night operation on Friday. The girls were produced before the Judicial Magistrate 7 and were sent to a home in Coimbatore. The police have also informed the parents of the three girls who were forced into the flesh trade that their daughters have been rescued. The police have seized three cell phones from Saji and are interrogating him to find out if any others are involved in the flesh trade network. It may be recalled that just a day ago, the police busted an online prostitution racket and arrested four pimps and rescued a 23-year-old woman in the Singanallur area. Source
