Police rescue trafficked 13-year-old girl, vagabond tried to rape her
A 13-year-old girl became a victim of child trafficking after she fled from her house in outer Delhi ten days ago, started working as a ragpicker and living on pavements outside Old Delhi railway station.
She was molested by a vagabond who later kidnapped her at knifepoint and sold her to a woman in north west Delhi. The woman was involved in child trafficking and selling girls to her clients who often look for minor girls for marriage, police said on Saturday.
On Friday, she was rescued by a team from Kotwali police station in north Delhi.
The girl had managed to escape from the custody of the child traffickers and alert police with the help of a passerby. She narrated her ordeal to the man, who then called the police control room.
At the instance of the girl, three persons, including a woman, have been arrested. Currently, police are looking for two of their accomplices.
Additional Commissioner of Police (North) Brijendra Kumar Yadav said the girl was produced before the child welfare committee, where her statement was recorded before being handed over to an NGO for counseling.
In her statement, the girl said that she lived with her parents, both labourers, in outer Delhi’s Rohini. Ten days ago, she fled from the house over being scolded by her parents.
After leaving home, the girl went to Chandni Chowk in central Delhi and started earning her livelihood as a ragpicker. Since she had no place to live, the girl started to sleep on pavements outside Old Delhi railway station.
On Monday night, the girl was sleeping on the pavement when a vagabond, identified as Nasir, attempted to rape her. He fled when the girl raised an alarm. Nasir returned with two accomplices – Punjabi and Raja – on Tuesday night and kidnapped the girl at knifepoint in an auto-rickshaw.
“They took her to Hasina’s house at Wazirpur JJ Colony in north west Delhi. Hasina kept the girl in confinement for two days and took Rs 1,500 as token money from a client who wished to marry the girl,” Yadav added.
Won trust, fled
When the girl realised that she was in trouble, she convinced Hasina that she would marry her client and this helped her win Hasina’s trust. On Friday, she somehow escaped from Hasina’s house and sought help from a passerby who in turn called police.
On the basis of her complaint, a case under Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act was filed and police arrested Hasina, Nasir and Raja, while Punjabi and Hasina’s client are still at large.
Further probe into the case revealed that this was the second time that the girl fled from her home. While her parents had filed her missing complaint the first time, they did not even bother to approach police this time.
