3 trafficked minors from Latehar district rescued, 2 arrested
RANCHI: Three minor girls of Semra village in Latehar, who were trafficked a year ago, were safely brought back from Delhi on Monday night and two persons were arrested in connection with the case.
Santosh and his wife Rekha of Chandwa police station area in Latehar wooed the three minor girls to go to Delhi promising them good pay for working there.
The girls were taken to Delhi in June 2013 but after their parents were unable to contact them for over six months they approached Santosh and Rekha to know their whereabouts but instead of telling them the address, the traffickers fought with them.
The officer in charge of Manika police station, K K Sahu, said, "After getting into a fight with Santosh and Rekha, parents of the girls lodged an FIR with us in January this year and after much investigation we arrested the duo in May end."
After Santosh and Rekha were arrested, the duo confessed that they trafficked the girls to Delhi and left them at a placement agency in Delhi run by Meena Minj, who belonged to Chipadohar police station area of Latehar. After getting the tip off, Latehar police issued an arrest warrant against Minj and went to Delhi where they arrested the woman on July 11 and presented in the court on July 12.
She revealed that two out of three girls were sent to work in Kota, Rajasthan while one worked at a household in Delhi. However, during the time of arrest of Minj, all three girls were present at the placement agency and thus were immediately rescued.
Sahu said, "Minj confessed that she used to get Rs.4,500 from each employer out of which she used to give Rs. 2,500 to Santosh and Rekha and kept Rs.2000 for herself. The girls and their parents were not given a single penny." The girls were brought back home safely by the Latehar police team on Monday night.
