The Delhi High Court has ordered a police probe into large-scale trafficking of young girls in the Capital for flesh trade and the racket of brothel owners bringing back the rescued girls using fraudulent means.

The court issued the order following a complaint by human rights NGO Shakti Vahini bringing the issue to the attention of the court. It told the court that many girls rescued by NGOs and police are brought back by the owner of the brothels by sending fictitious persons to the court to pose as their parents to take the custody of the girl.

“We have considered the importance of the matter where large-scale trafficking of young girls takes place in Delhi and even after they are rescued, the brothel persons force the girls not to reveal the truth. In the court, they take the custody of the girl in the guise of parent,” said the court.

The bench appointed Delhi police standing counsel Zubeida Begum as the amicus curiae in the matter and sought a report by July 10.

Following a complaint by another NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan, the court is also looking into whether some of Capital’s placement agencies were indulging in flesh trade. The court had in 2010 ordered a CBI probe into the role of a prominent Rohini-based placement agency and whose trail runs into several states.
