Two trafficked girls rescued after arrest of three racketeers

GUWAHATI: Two girls, one of them a minor, belonging to Dhirenpara area in the city were rescued from Rajasthan and Haryana respectively on Sunday evening. Both the girls had been lured with the promise of jobs by the same group traffickers who sold them. While one of the girls was sold for Rs one lakh to a family in Haryana where she kept as a maid, the other girl, a minor, somehow managed to escape from the clutches of the traffickers and was taking shelter in a women's home at Bikaner in Rajasthan from where the police brought her back. Police rescued the girls following the arrest of three of the racketeers - two women Samiyara Khanon and Rabia Khatun and a man named Sainur Ali - on February 28. While Samiyara was arrested from Barpeta, the two others were nabbed from Dhirenpara. "A missing report of a girl named Jasmin Begum was filed at the police station on February 27. We had some suspects in the case whom we started tracking. After we arrested Samiyara Khanon, Rabia Khatun and Sainur Ali, they confessed that they were into trafficking young girls to other states. However, they expressed ignorance about the missing girl," said a police official at Fatasil Ambari police station. Police believe that they will get leads about Jasmin's whereabouts through the arrested three. After the Fatasil police arrested the racketeers, Assam police on March 3 launched a search operation in Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi with the help of their counterparts in these states. "There were other girls too who were sent to Delhi along with me. We all were promised good jobs. But, later, I came to know that I had been sold. I wanted to come back home but there was no way," cried one of the victims, aged 20. In the past few months, several girls from the region have been rescued, mostly from the northern parts of the country.
