Cops rescue girl sold for Rs 70,000
An offence of selling a girl for Rs 70,000 has surfaced when the girl stated before the police that her father sold her to one Raju Chaudhri ofMadhya Pradesh and later Raju sold her to another Ramprasad Chaudhri for Rs 70,000.
The incident took place in Washim district. Bhimrao Borkar, a resident of Rithad in Risod taluka of Washim district sold his daughter, but misled the police by filing her missing report on December 7, 2011. After this, Shivaji Borkar and Rambhau Borkar filed a complaint with the police on March 11, 2012 that their daughter has been kidnapped. However, the daughter remained untraced. During the in-depth investigation and one telephonic location to the father, the police went to village Bangreau under Badnagar district Ujjain and rescued the girl. Bhimrao Borkar (father) Asha (Step mother) Vanita (Step sister) and Ramprasad Chaudhri have been arrested on Saturday and the girl has been sent to hospital for medical examination. Asha Borkar, the step mother is stated to be behind the sell-off. Police are investigating.
Show-cause notice to nine sonography centres: Nine sonography centres in Akola district have been served show cause notice under PCPNDT Act whereas three sonography cenres have been sealed during inspection, sources said. More than 22 sonography centres were inspected. Nine of them were found with some lacunae and therefore they were served show cause notices. Non-cognizable offences have been registered against five centres. The inspection and raids are being conducted as part of statewide drive to prevent foeticide and infanticide of girls.
Three persons commit suicide: Arvind Kawre (35), a resident of Barshi Takli tahsil town, has committed suicide by hanging in a room at his farmhouse on Saturday. Reason behind the suicide has yet to be ascertained. In another incident, a young married woman Dipika Shyam Ahir of Malegaon tahsil town in Washim district has committed suicide by hanging herself in her house with a nylon rope of the cradle on Saturday afternoon. He had a four-year-old son. She was alone in the house when she took the extreme step. She was residing near old ST bus stand. A case of accidental death has been registered. The body has been sent to hospital for post mortem.
In the third incident, Purushottam Palaspagar (44), a marginal farmer of village Wani Warula under Akot taluka ended life by consuming poison at his residence on Saturday. An accidental death has been registered.
Youth robbed of Rs 1 lakh: A 28-year old cotton broker has been relieved of Rs 1 lakh when he was boarding a bus along with his friend. Nandlal Rathi of Khandala and his friend Vithhal Mahalle were going to Danapur, and while boarding the bus, they suspect one youth to have pushed them. As Rathi felt his bag light and checked, he found about Rs one lakh stolen. Rathi and his friend Mahalle chased the youth and some traffic cops also joined them. However, the thief vanished at an ongoing fair at Swarajya Bhavan. Police later recovered the stolen cash.
Youth killed in mishap: A 23-year-old youth, Sagar Aghadte of village Pimpri Dikkar was killed on the spot as the truck he was driving, turned turtle and he came under the wheels of a tractor on Saturday afternoon at Shivar of village Pimpri Dikkar near here.
