16-yr-old sold by ‘lover’, in Meerut brothel, raped
A 16-year-old girl, with dreams of getting married to her boyfriend whom she loved, left her home with the hope that she will live happily ever after. But fate had something else in store for her. Her boyfriend sold her off for Rs. 20,000 at a brothel in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut, the owner of which sold her again to another brothel in Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand forRs. 40,000.
She was allegedly raped several times by the brother of the Uttarkashi brothel owner. The victim does not know the real name and residential address of the youth with whom she had eloped.
After five months, she managed to escape from the brothel and reunited with her parents in southwest Delhi's Bindapur.
Her parents approached the police which conducted raids at both the brothels. The owner of the brothel in Uttarkashi, identified as Poonam, was arrested on Saturday.
The police are now trying to apprehend Poonam's brother Pyarelal and the youth who convinced her to elope.
According to a senior police officer, the girl met the youth in October 2011 and he gave a false name and residential address.
"She said he convinced her to elope for a better life. In December 2011, they eloped. The youth sold her to Hasina, a brothel owner in Meerut. A few days later, Hasina sold her to Poonam. The victim alleged that she was raped by Poonam's brother Pyarelal," said a police officer.
