Srinagar, April 10: Jammu and Kashmir Police Tuesday detained four people from Baramulla who were allegedly involved in human trafficking and booked them under Public Safety Act (PSA).

A police spokesman said here this afternoon that acting on a tip-off police in Baramulla arrested four people, who were involved in immoral activities and human trafficking in and around Pattan town.

He said that they were working as an organised gang and exploiting the poor and helpless women hailing from outside state, including West Bengal by luring them on the pretext of providing employment in the valley.

But, he said, instead they would exploit them sexually and there after sell them to different people for the same purpose for Rs 20000 to Rs 30000.

The activities of the gang had posed a potential threat to the moral values of the society in general and to the people of the area in particular, besides being prejudicial to maintenance of public order.

The exploiters were identified as Ali Mohammad Bhat, Mohammad Subhan Dar, Mohammad Altaf Khan and Mohammad Maqbool Dar alias Maqbool Kaka.

Earlier they had been arrested on 31-01-2012 at Hanjiwera Mirgund when they were travelling in a vehicle alongwith a victim girl from West Bengal.

The girl was found to be a minor of 16 years of age. Medical examination of the girl confirmed her sexual exploitation.

During the course of investigation it was found that this gang of exploiters had been involved in the illegal trade since long. They had lured a number of people of the area into this immoral activities in order to make easy bucks.

However, these exploiters had got themselves released on bail in that case. Meanwhile, Baramulla Police this time had prepared a dossier of the said persons and submitted the same to the District Magistrate Baramulla in order to get them detained under PSA.

After studying the dossiers District Magistrate Baramulla issued detention warrants against all the four people citing that the normal laws are not sufficient to contain the activities of the gang. All the four were arrested and sent to Central Jail Kotbilwal Jammu today for serving the period of detention. Agencies
