Thousands of Brides bought in Haryana for marriage
Haryana probably has the dubious honour of being the only state in the country that buys brides. Women are bought from as far off as Kerala and Tripura. Skewed sex ratio is the major reason behind this negative trend, which, sadly, is yet to be curbed.
Two new words in the Haryanvi lexicon are the words molki and Paro. Molki means bought for a price and paro means from across the state. A new fact has come to light that there are at least a dozen molki (or bought) girls on an average in each village of Haryana.
The only bride buying state in country, Haryana has roughly 45,000 molki girls from state’s as far as Kerala, Tripura, Assam, Jharkhand. What’s more due to the bad sex ratio, things cannot get any better for the time being. A look at some villages gives the mirror-reflection of the entire state.
In Sorkhi village of Hisar there are about a dozen girls from the backwaters of Kerala, who do not understand the language, have no appetite for the Haryanvi food.
Another girl from Tripura, too got married here owing to the fact that all themarriage expenses were borne by the boy’s family.
Most of the gangs operating in and around the NCR also focus on Haryana, because of the better prices offered for the girls. And so are the fly-by-nightmarriage bureaus prospering in the state.
The Janwadi Mahila Sangharsh Samiti along with a couple of other organizations is working towards making a social change in the state as also in helping the police. But in Haryana one malaise has led to another and each ofthese malaises are given the name of need rather than unwanted desire.
This even as the political will to resolve issues like these is zilch among variouscross section of politicians and leaders, who have condemned it because that is the easiest and least they can do. Source
