Victim conned into prostitution, say cops

PANAJI: The 22-year-old mother of two from Mumbai was lured to Goa with the prospect of a job and then pushed into prostitution, police said. They suspect that 35-year-old pimp Shahin Pathan, from Mumbai might have brought several other girls to Goa with a promise of job in a casino or night club.Pathan's interrogation has revealed that the 22-year-old victim had contacted her in Mumbai as she wanted work to pay off the loan she had taken."The victim was happily married. Her husband works as a driver in a private company in Mumbai. But in the last few months, they faced financial problems as they had taken a loan from the market at high interest rates to celebrate their children's birthday and to meet other family needs," said police.As they couldn't pay back the 1 lakh, money lenders started humiliating the family and threatening them. This upset the victim and she talked to a neighbour of hers, who advised her to work."The victim was advised by one of her neighbour's to talk to Pathan, who arranged for people to work as extras in films.
When the victim contacted Pathan, she was told that a job could be arranged at a casino in Goa and within a month, she could earn nearly 50,000 just by way of commissions.The victim agreed to work for two or three months and then return home to be with her family," said policeOn July 6, the trafficker brought the victim to Mapusa, from where they were picked up by an Uttranchal couple Sonu and Saroj Singh and taken to an apartment in North Goa. Police said that Pathan took money from the couple and left the state."That night the victim was taken to a hotel under pretences of showing her t he casino and was sexually abused," police said.The trend of bringing girls to Goa with the promise of a job in casinos and night clubs was exposed after the victim was rescued while soliciting in Pernem.
The Pernem police arrested Pathan under various Sections of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act 1956.She was picked up by the Goa police with the help of Mumbai police from Nala Sopara in Mumbai ci
