Couple held for forcing 16-yr-old Bangladeshi girl into prostitution
The suspects Hrishikesh Kondhbar (21) and his wife Pooja (19), both of Dandekar bridge, are selling balloons and flowers near Sarasbaug.
According to assistant inspector Vimal Bidve of the social security cell of the crime branch, the victim was brought to Pune in 2009 by some unidentified persons on the pretext of giving her a job. "They sold her to a brothel owner in Budhwar Peth. The brothel owner forced her into prostitution."
"In September 2010, the girl escaped from the brothel and came to Sarasbaug, where she met the Kondhbar couple. "She claimed that she was carrying Rs 27,000 with her. The couple promised to help her to go back to Bangladesh and took her to their house," Bidve said.
According to the police, the couple also forced her into prostitution. "On January 3, the girl escaped from the clutches of the couple and went to the Dattawadi police station," Bidve said.
The police sent her to the observation home in Nana Peth.
"We have got information from the observation home about the suspects on Wednesday. We took the girl with us and she showed us their house. We arrested the couple and handed them over to the Dattawadi police," Bidve said.
The police team also took the girl to the brothel in Budhwar Peth, where the girl was forced into prostitution. "The brothel has already been sealed by the police," Bidve said. Source
